Predictions 2010: The future of Linux

A new decade for Linux in the data center begins in January. While no palm readers or astrologists were asked for their divinations, six Linux-watchers consulted their knowledge-banks and offered up a few predictions on Linux in 2010.

The Cost of Open Source Software (2008)

What is the meaning of open source software freedom? The interesting thing is that these open source software are written by many people without any expectations (financial at least). I'm starting to think that so many people from so many different countries have never before actively cooperated and shared like this before.

The true cost of migrating to open source

Microsoft’s sleight of hand has made the real financial advantages of open source appear to vanish, says Mark Taylor.

Top Ten for Government 2.0 in 2009

Almost inevitably the last few days of the year feature an impressive number of lists – on newspapers, magazines, web sites, radio and TV programs – about the best and the worst that happened during the year that is about to end.

As 2009 is my first full year as a blogger, I could not resist developing my own, very personal top ten in the area of government 2.0 and surroundings. As in the most classical tradition of top tens, I will go in reverse order, from number ten to number one, and provide my own, again very personal and totally arbitrary mark to each of those entries.

Interjú a Linux Ipari Szövetség elnökével

A szabad és nyílt forrású szoftverek állami szférában történő meghonosodásának esélyei jócskán gyengébbnek látszanak hazánkban, mint az Európai Unió nyugati országaiban. Legutóbb a Központi Szolgáltatási Főigazgatóság és Nyílt Dokumentumformátum Szövetség vitája kapott nagyobb visszhangot. Ezen ellentét okairól és a lehetséges megoldásról Dr. Szentiványi Gábort, a Linux Ipari Szövetség elnökét, az Open Document Format Alliance magyar tagozatának elnökségi tagját a ComputerWorld kérdezte.

Törvény a nyílt szabványok kötelező alkalmazásáról

A Nyílt Szabvány Szövetség (NYISSZ) üdvözli, hogy az Országgyűlés kötelezővé tette a nyílt szabványok alkalmazását a magyarországi hivatalok, közműszolgáltatók, állampolgárok és magáncégek egymás közötti, a központi állami rendszeren keresztül folyó kommunikációjában.

Open Source Has Nothing to Do with Open Government

One of the interesting consequences of the Open Government Directive has been a burst of enthusiasm by some of the open source software proponents and vendors (see here and here) who have immediately established a link between the use of open source and the directive.

E-Gov Versus Open Gov: The Evolution of E-Democracy

How is the Obama Administration’s Open Government (Open Gov) initiative different from the Bush Administration’s E-government (E-gov) initiative? There are many people who use the two terms interchangeably but this paper argues that although they are distinct initiatives in the United States, they are also part of the same E-democracy maturity continuum. Thus while they should not be handled totally separately, they should not be combined either. This paper provides a short history and terminology discussion and then compares and contrasts the two initiatives.

Linux a londoni értéktőzsdén

Sokkal olcsóbb, pláne felső kategóriás kiszolgálókra - állítja a computerworld.com cikkírója.

Netbook operációs rendszer alternatíva-e a Linux?

Linux: létezik, megoldható, nem kerül semmibe. Mégis, jelenleg a legtöbb olcsó mini noteszgépen a Microsoft operációs rendszerei futnak. Miért lehet érdemes átállni ingyenes alapokra és milyen nehézségekkel szembesülhetünk? Munkatársunk szubjektívja.
